Scott Hoag has a funny sense of humor. Back in 2011 Scott’s team at MRT decided to take a different path and customize a lowly V6 Mustang. Yes, the same car your parents bought your little sister for graduation. But Scott had a plan, one that included bolting on a ProCharger and pushing the little 3.7L V6 over the 400 horsepower mark. He treated the rest of the car to a full road racing package and a full custom interior. The car made waves at the 2011 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational and still gets beaten regularly on race tracks around the country. I personally experienced the TKO at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit with Scott behind the wheel and myself holding on for dear life in the passenger seat. Who knew a V6 Mustang could be that good?
So when the MRT team announce that they had obtained a 2015 2.3L EcoBoost Mustang we knew things were going to get interesting. While the little boosted four-banger already puts out 300 horsepower/320 lb.-ft. of torque stock, the question on everyone’s mind has been just how much did Ford leave on the table? With a bit of minor tinkering and a new exhaust MRT has coaxed another 50 horsepower and 80 lb.-ft. of torque out of the little engine and there seems to be more on tap. So things are going well in the engine room, but what about the rest of the package? First off this is probably the first 2015 Mustang on earth rolling on air bags. This allows the 20″ Forgiato wheels to tuck nicely into the wheel wells when aired out. Before you confuse this car with the “stance kids” crowd know that the full “Track Pack” chassis & suspension package was thrown in the mix to make the TKO a true track machine. The custom headlights give an eery red glow that matches the grill accent lighting for a killer nighttime look.
